Boclair Residents Sign on with Fit-Baw

At Boclair Care Home, we love finding new ways to keep our residents active, engaged, and feeling their best. That’s why we’re so excited to be teaming up with Fit-Baw for their brand-new Strength and Power Programme, a fun six-week course designed to help improve mobility, build confidence, and make everyday tasks just that little bit easier.

Every Wednesday morning from 11 am to 12 pm, our residents get together for a gentle but effective workout tailored just for them. The aim? To help strengthen muscles, improve balance, and, most importantly, boost independence. We all know that staying active is good for us, but for older adults, it can make a huge difference—reducing the risk of falls, keeping joints flexible, and even improving mood and mental health overall.

Why Staying Active Matters

As we get older, it’s natural to slow down a little, but keeping moving is one of the best things we can do for our bodies and minds. Regular exercise—especially strength and balance training—can help:

  • Reduce the risk of falls – By improving strength and coordination, residents feel steadier on their feet.
  • Maintain independence – Simple activities like getting up from a chair or climbing stairs become easier.
  • Boost mood and wellbeing – Exercise releases endorphins, the “feel-good” hormones that help reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Support heart health – Moving more keeps the heart and circulation in good shape.
  • Encourage social connections – Exercising in a group setting is a great way to have fun and stay motivated.

Making Fitness Fun

One of the best things about the Fit-Baw sessions is how much fun everyone is having. Whether it’s stretching, gentle strength exercises, or balance work, the sessions are designed to be engaging and accessible for all abilities. There’s always plenty of laughter, encouragement, and a great sense of achievement by the end of each session.

It’s brilliant to hear how much the residents are enjoying the sessions, and we're hoping that after the six weeks, our residents will be moving more easily and enjoying getting active with friends.
