Discovering Artistic Talents in January
Over the month of January, we’ve been keeping cosy indoors at Boclair Care Home, swapping the winter chill for warm cups of tea, good company, and plenty of creativity. Our residents have been getting stuck into some brilliant art sessions, and it’s been amazing to see just how much hidden talent has come to life, especially from those who’ve never picked up a sketchbook before!
There’s something really special about watching someone discover a new hobby, and that’s exactly what’s been happening here. Some of our residents have surprised themselves with what they’ve created, from lovely detailed drawings to colourful pieces that are now proudly on display around the home. It’s been a joy seeing everyone so focused, pencils in hand, letting their imaginations flow.
Art isn’t just about making lovely pictures (though we’ve certainly got plenty of those!). It’s a fantastic way for older adults to keep their minds active, boost their mood, and express themselves. It can spark memories, ease feelings of stress, and even help with fine motor skills—all while bringing people together for a good blether and a bit of fun.
These photos say it all, our residents have been busy this January despite the chilly weather, sketching away, with the sunlight we have had streaming in through the windows. Whether it was drawing from real-life objects or just letting creativity lead the way, our art sessions have been such a laugh, and the community have certainly been encouraging one another over the odd biscuit or two! Art has a wonderful way of bringing out the best in people, and our residents have shown that you’re never too old to discover a new passion.
